Former engineer Michael Mase now serves as a primary injectable RN at Vivacity Life Center, an anti-aging clinic in Stamford, Connecticut. In connection with his nursing practice, Michael Mase is also a certified phlebotomist.
Responsible for drawing blood from patients to be used for medical testing, transfusions, or research, phlebotomists have been in high demand in recent years, yet job vacancies are not easily filled because only applicants with recognized phlebotomy certification can be considered for the positions.
To qualify for certification, aspiring phlebotomists must successfully complete a rigorous training program. In addition to practical phlebotomy skills, other courses relevant to the practice, such as medical terminology, safety and infection control, and anatomy and physiology are typically required. To acquire blood-drawing skills, students participate in hands-on training inside or outside of the classroom.
